India Porn Ban: Government Bans 67 Porn Websites, Most of them India Based

NEW DELHI: Indian Government and Porn Ban is not a new affair. The government banned more than 800 porn sites in 2015 which created quite a ruckus among people as they came out in protest against the government's move claiming it was an attack on individual freedom of people. The government later scaled down the directive and limited the ban only to sites that contain child pornographic material. 

After 7 years, the Indian Government again ordered a ban on more than 60 porn sites on Thursday in a move to make the internet free from websites that violate the new IT rules of the country. 

The order to ban these pornographic sites has been passed by the Department of Telecommunications which is based on a judgment by two courts in Pune and Nainital respectively. 

The court order passed by these two courts on 24th September 2022, reads, "This is with reference to the order issued by Hon'ble High Court of Uttarakhand at Nainital on 27.09.2018 in the matter of Writ Petition (PIL) No.158 of 2018 and Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) email dated 24-9-2022. MeitY in compliance with the said order read along with rule 3(2)(b) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, and in view of certain obscene material available on the below-mentioned website that tarnishes the image of modesty of women, has directed to order immediately take down (block) the following Four (4) websites/URLs,"

The government has ordered internet service providers to show some hurry and to block these websites in India with immediate effect. 

According to sources, this ban on 60 odd porn sites would not be temporary as it was in the 2015 case when the government tried to ban over 800 porn sites in the country. 

Some of the sites which have been added to the block list are, http://www.aagmaal.website, http://www.jossmaza.live, http://www.jossmaza.xyz, http://www.indianporngirl.com, http://www.xxxindianporn2.com.
