New Delhi: According to the Union Home Ministry data, India reports the highest ever single-day spike in the cases of COVID 19 with 1,84,372 fresh cases. The cases have been going in an upward spiral for the 35th consecutive day. The data on 8 AM on Wednesday showed that the death toll had increased to 1,72,085 with 1,027 new fatalities, which is considered the highest since October 18, 2020.
With the steady increase of cases on a daily basis for the 35th day in a row, the active cases have increased to 13,65,704 resulting in 9.84 percent of the total infections. It is quite shocking to note that the national COVID-19 recovery rate has dropped to 88.92 per cent. Read more
The active number of cases was at its lowest at 1,35,926 on February 12 and it was at its highest at 10,17,754 on September 18, 2020.
The data also shared that the number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to1,23,36,036 while the case fatality rate has further dropped to 1.24 percent.
The 1,027 fatalities reported include 281 from Maharashtra, 156 from Chhattisgarh, 85 from Uttar Pradesh, 81 from Delhi, 67 each from Gujarat and Karnataka, 50 from Punjab, 40 from Madhya Pradesh, 29 from Jharkhand, 28 from Rajasthan, 20 each from Kerala and West Bengal, 18 from Tamil Nadu, 16 from Haryana, 14 from Bihar, 13 from Uttarakhand, 11 from Himachal Pradesh and 10 from Andhra Pradesh.
Maharashtra continues to be the worst coronavirus-affected state in the country reporting 58,526 new deaths while followed by 3,008 from Karnataka, 12,945 from Tamil Nadu, 11,436 from Delhi, 10,434 from West Bengal, 9,309 from Uttar Pradesh, 7,609 from Punjab, and 7,321 from Andhra Pradesh.
The Maharashtra Government had on Tuesday announced a statewide complete lockdown with effect from Wednesday for the next 15 days. Read more
Meanwhile, the Uttrakhand government admitted to not being able to take adequate steps to ensure the proper implementation of COVID 19 protocols for the Kumbh Mela taking place in Haridwar. As of Tuesday, 192 devotees test COVID positive.
