NEW DELHI: A dinner invite by the President of India for the G20 representatives is now the topic of discussion among not only Indians but also the citizens of many other countries as well. The invite has triggered speculations of “India” being renamed as “Bharat”.

With the G20 meetings in Delhi on the cards, Indian President Droupadi Murmu sent out invites to the Heads of State and the Ministers of the participating nations for a dinner event. But instead of saying “President of India”, the invitation mentioned “President of Bharat.” Images of this invite have triggered speculations regarding the change of the name of the country.

Even the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma had left a comment on X regarding the same, “REPUBLIC OF BHARAT - happy and proud that our civilisation is marching ahead boldly towards AMRIT KAAL”. The meaning of this statement became clear after the images of the invitation were shared on social media.

Meanwhile, the sudden calling of a Special Session of the Parliament has also added fuel to these speculations among the citizens. And many citizens including the citizens of India are now considering the possibility of the topic being taken up in the upcoming session.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh however called this action an attack on the Constitution. He said, "Mr. Modi can persist in distorting history and dividing India, that is Bharat, which is a Union of States. However, we remain resolute. After all, what is the goal of INDIA parties? It is BHARAT - Bring Harmony, Amity, Reconciliation, And Trust. Judega BHARAT, Jeetega INDIA!"

It can be noted that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat mentioned the use of Bharat instead of India. "The name of our country has been Bharat for ages. Whatever maybe the language, the name remains the same," Mohan Bhagwat pointed out at an event in Guwahati.
