NEW DELHI: Starting on June 26, Indian Railways will introduce "Vande Bharat" trains on five new routes. This occurrence is significant because it follows a horrific incident that occurred in Odisha on June 2 and resulted in the deaths of 288 persons. Through a video conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to officially launch the trains.
The new routes for the Vande Bharat trains include Mumbai-Goa, Bangalore-Hubli, Patna-Ranchi, Bhopal-Indore, and Bhopal-Jabalpur. Initially, the Mumbai-Goa Vande Bharat train launch was canceled due to the Odisha accident.
This launch will mark the first time that five Vande Bharat trains will begin operations simultaneously. While previous launches have been celebrated with great enthusiasm, it is anticipated that this event will be relatively modest due to the recent tragedy in Odisha.
In May, Prime Minister Modi virtually flagged off Uttarakhand's first semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express train, which connects Dehradun to New Delhi. Additionally, on May 18, PM Modi inaugurated the Vande Bharat Express between Puri and Howrah via video conferencing. These modern semi-high-speed trains offer advanced passenger amenities, providing travelers with a faster, more comfortable, and convenient journey.
Vande Bharat was made operational in virtually all states by June of this year, according to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who made the announcement during the introduction of the inaugural Vande Bharat train in Odisha.
For those who are not acquainted, the Vande Bharat Express is an indigenous, semi-high-speed rail system. It has cutting-edge passenger amenities, guaranteeing a better travel experience that is quicker and more convenient.
In addition to the upcoming launches, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off Northeast's first Vande Bharat Express on May 29. This train covers the journey from Guwahati to New Jalpaiguri, reducing the travel time from 6 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours 30 minutes compared to the fastest existing train. During the event, PM Modi also dedicated newly electrified sections and inaugurated a newly constructed DEMU/MEMU shed in Lumding, Assam. These developments will enable pollution-free transportation, higher-speed train operations, reduced travel time, and the entry of electric traction trains into Meghalaya.
In summary, Indian Railways is preparing to introduce Vande Bharat trains on five additional routes starting from June 26. This comes after the unfortunate incident in Odisha, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to inaugurate the trains via video conferencing. The Vande Bharat Express offers modern amenities, aiming to provide passengers with a comfortable and efficient mode of travel.
