New Delhi: Terming China's choice of a PLA soldier involved in the Galwan Valley clash as a torchbearer in the Bejing Winter Olympics event as ''regrettable'', India on Thursday announced that its envoy will not attend the opening or closing ceremonies of the games in the country's capital.

The same was apprised by the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi at his weekly briefing.

Soon after the MEA's announcement, Prasar Bharti CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempti asserted that Doordarshan will not telecast the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Qi Fabao, the regimental commander from the PLA's Xinjiang military command had fought in the Galwan clash on June 15, 2020 and suffered head injury took the flame from Wang Meng at Winter Olympic Park.

China's mouth-piece, Global Times, an English news outlet tweeted his images carrying the flame.

Notably, on Wednesday an investigative report by Australian newspaper -- The Klaxon -- had claimed that China suffered more losses than it claimed in the 2020 clashes in the Galvan Valley.

The report also went on saying that many Chinese soldiers were drowned in the darkness while crossing the river with a strong current.

The newspaper quoted several anonymous researchers and bloggers from China in this regard.
