NEW DELHI: In a recent incident of communal violence that took place in the Jahangirpuri area of the national capital Delhi, at least 9 people including 8 police officials sustained injuries.

On Saturday 16 April, serious clashes occurred between the people from the Hindu and Muslim communities in Jahangirpuri which is in North West of Delhi.

According to reports violence erupt when a Soba Yatra was being taken out for procession in the area during the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

After the massive fight between two communities, the police units in all districts in NCR (National Capital Region) are placed on high alert with additional police force deployment.

Meanwhile, police arrested 9 people in connection with the violence and a case has been filed under IPC sections 147, 148, 149, 186, 307, 323, 332, 353, 427, 436 and 120B.

Union Home Minister has directed the Delhi Police officials to take strict action against the miscreants involved in communal clashes.

The Delhi police team has also started a thorough investigation to understand from where and how the violence actually broke out on Saturday evening.

A quick look at what led to violent clashes in North West Delhi:

1. At around 05:30 pm clashes were first reported in Block B and C of the Jahangirpuri area located close to the Kushal Cinema.

2. Several videos of the incident has been surfaced on social media which show people attacking each other by throwing stones amid the procession on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

3. In the streets some were seen threatening with weapons like swords while some others were abusing and shouting.

4. A shopkeeper at the Block C area in Jahangirpuri alleged that some of the miscreants forcefully entered his shop and looted the cash money from the counter along with other goods.

5. Mohammad Shahin who operates a shop near the Block C mosque said that some people involved in the celebration of Hanuman Jayanti put a flag at the top of the mosque which led to the intense dispute.

6. Soon after the violence, several videos from Block C are going viral on social media where some people are seen raising slogans of 'Allah Hu Akbar' while waving swords in their hands.

7. The mosque is 50m distance from the area where people waved swords and raised slogans but block C was the main place where the clash was reported.

8. According to the preliminary investigation, some individuals got involved in a fight with another community during the Shobha Yatra and this resulted in stone-pelting.

9. The Muslim residents claim that some of the attendees of the procession started the violence by sloganeering while the Hindu group claim that Muslims started pelting stones.

10. The Delhi police are meanwhile examining the CCTV footage for the identification of the rioters and the scene where clashes occurred is kept under heavy security cover.
