Jaipur: Union HM Emphasizes Training and Technology Upgrades at 58th DGP-IGP National Conference

JAIPUR: The 58th DGP-IGP National Conference saw the Union Home Minister highlighting the importance of training at all levels within police ranks and advancements in technology.

At the opening ceremony of the 58th DGP-IGP national conference hosted by Rajasthan International Centre, Amit Shah - Union Home Minister, stressed on highlighting how indispensable it is to provide training to police officials ranging from Station House Officers (SHOs) up until Director Generals of Police (DGP). He accentuated that their focal point should be geared towards equipping law enforcement with essential expertise for efficient execution of newly developed criminal laws.

Shah emphasized the importance of technological progress and advocated for modernization extending from local police stations to state headquarters. The Home Minister asserted that successful implementation of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) rests on comprehensive training programs together with advances in technology.

The latest criminal laws mark a significant departure from the legislation inherited from Britain, with an emphasis on dispensing justice instead of resorting to punitive measures. Shah conveyed his certainty that these changes will bring about a contemporized and empirically-driven epoch in the realm of criminal justice mechanisms.

Shah highlighted the significance of two key advancements in 2023: firstly, the establishment of New Education Policy (NEP) and secondly, the implementation of three new criminal laws. According to Shah, these legal adjustments have been introduced with a view to fundamentally reforming our justice system. The primary objective is now focused on delivering more effective dispensation of justice instead emphasizing punishment as has previously been done traditionally.

Over the years, the conference has evolved into a strategic 'think tank' that helps with decision-making and developing new security strategies. Shah emphasized how vital it is for national counter-terrorism mechanisms to have consistency in their structures, size, and skill levels.

Shah proposed the combination of databases and an analytical approach driven by AI to tackle constantly changing security challenges. He acknowledged internal security as a crucial factor in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal for India to become a developed nation by 2047.

Over the course of three days, Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah participated in a conference focused on addressing essential security concerns such as border protection, cyber dangers, radical extremism, falsified identification documents ,and emerging threats from artificial intelligence. In recognition of commendable service to the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Shah presented police medals to its officers during the event.

Throughout the duration of the conference, topics such as AI and deepfake technologies will be addressed in relation to policing and security efforts. These futuristic themes aim to shape law enforcement practices in a positive way through information sharing on best practices from various states and union territories.

It's expected that there will be a thorough reorganization of Rajasthan Police Service (RPS) officers after the conference, which shows their dedication towards modernizing and improving the law enforcement system in the state.
