BARAMULLA (JAMMU & KASHMIR): A joint team comprising personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army was successful in busting a terrorist module at Uri in Baramulla district of the union territory. The operation led to the arrest of three people and recovery of arms and ammunition from them, along with incriminating documents.

A case under UA (P) Act & Arms Act has been registered and investigation into their connections has been launched, with more information likely to emerge.

"A terrorist module has been busted in Uri Baramulla, and 3 terrorist associates of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit have been arrested. Arms and ammunition were recovered from them, and a case under UA(P) Act & Arms Act registered," said a statement from the police.

The officials stated that during joint patrolling and area domination at Churunda Uri by forces of Baramulla Police and Army's 16 Sikh Light Infantry, it was noticed that one suspected person was roaming in the area. On noticing the patrolling party, he tried to flee while but he was tactfully apprehended, they said.

Upon searching of his person, two grenades were recovered from him by the forces and he was taken into their custody immediately. The police later identified him as Showkat Ali Awan, a resident of Churunda in Uri.

When he was further questioned, he revealed the names of his associates as Ahmad Din, a resident of Churunda, and Mohammad Sadeeq Khatana, another resident of Churunda.

Their questioning led to their discovery of two Grenades, one Chinese Pistol, one Pistol Magazine and four live rounds from them, the police added.

According to the police, the three accused are involved in cross border smuggling of arms and ammunition, working at the behest of Pakistan based terror handlers and that they are involved in distributing the weapons to LeT terrorists to carry out terror activities.

A case under Indian Arms Act & UA(P) Act was registered against them in Police Station Uri, and investigations are being conducted in the matter, said the police.

The police have also meticulously catalogued the seized materials as part of the ongoing investigation, which is aimed at unravelling the details of their involvement and the broader terror network.
