NEW DELHI: Isha Alya, an actor from Jharkhand, was allegedly shot dead by snatchers early on Wednesday morning on National Highway 16 in Howrah, West Bengal, according to police. The event happened as the actress, her husband Prakash Kumar, and their 3-year-old daughter was travelling from Ranchi to Kolkata.

A police investigation has been opened as a result of Kumar's complaint. In order to reenact the incident, the detectives also interrogated Kumar and took him to the crime scene. Police are also getting video from a CCTv set up in a nearby factory that is near the crime scene.

"The allegation states that the family was driving their automobile toward Kolkata. Around six in the morning, they came to a barren location where Kumar felt compelled to return to nature. Attacking them were three snatchers. Alya was shot at point-blank range while she attempted to struggle, a police officer reported.

She was well-known for her acting in Jharkhand. Although her real name is Riya Kumari, she goes by the stage name Isha Alya, said Kumar, who identified himself as a film director. There were three criminals, the complainant claimed. When Kumar got down to attend to his natural needs, they attacked him.

"Our daughter was riding in the car with my wife. My wife stopped to try to fight off the thieves when they tried to steal my wallet. According to Kumar, she was shot. Locals claim that because the region was barren, Kumar drove down around two kilometers to look for assistance. Alya was pronounced dead at the Uluberia hospital after the victim was taken there urgently.

Sources claim that despite a drop in these serious offenses due to pandemic-related limitations in 2020, registered violent crimes such rape, kidnapping, crimes against children, and robbery surged once more throughout India in 2021. Murders, which did not decline even in 2020, increased again last year.

In 2021, there were 31,677 reported cases of rape, up from 28,046 in 2020 and getting closer to the 32,032 occurrences reported in 2019. From 1,05,036 cases in 2019 to 84,805 cases in 2020, kidnapping and abduction-related cases increased once more to 1,01,707 cases in 2021. However, the number of murders increased steadily, from 28,915 in 2019 to 29,272 in 2021, up from 29,193 in 2020.
