Bengaluru: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday fell short by just one seat from getting majority in the 75-member Karnataka Legislative council.

The election was held on December 10 for 25 seats.

The Saffron party's strength in the 75-member Upper House of the state legislature is now 37 from earlier 32. This figure indicates that the BJP will be dependent on the JD(S) to get any legislation cleared through the council.

On the other hand, the Congress tally, declined from 29 to 26 while JD(S) numbers also came down from 12 to 10.

In this election, the JD(S) contested for 6 seats of which it won on 2 seats.

One seat in Belagavi own by Lakhan Jarkiholi, who contested as an Independent candidate.
