Dehradun: The Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand was opened for devotees on May 6 as thousands of pilgrims visited the holy site.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, along with his wife, were also present at the temple premises to witness the auspicious occasion and offered prayers in the morning.
According to reports, as many as 10,000 devotees flocked to Kedarnath temple to witness the opening of the doors of Kedarnath Temple.
The doors of the temple, which were decked with 15 quintals of flowers, opened by following the years old traditional ritual of Vedic chanting.
The temple premises got shut down during the winter season for a period of six months on November 6 last year.
CM Dhami, via a Twitter post, welcomed the devotees and assured them that his government would provide a safe and secure journey and he said it just a few hours prior to the opening of the temple doors.
Meanwhile, the pilgrims must take cognizance of the fact that the Uttarakhand government has fixed a daily limit on the number of pilgrims for Char Dham Yatra 2022 and the decision was taken keeping the Covid-19 pandemic in mind.
The daily limit of Pilgrims at Kedarnath has been set at 12,000. It is not mandatory for pilgrims to carry a negative COVID-19 test report or vaccination certificate for this year.
Meanwhile, the Kedarnath temple is located on the bank of the Mandakini river and it happens to be one of the four ancient pilgrimage sites, referred to as 'Char Dham'. Besides Kedarnath, it also includes Yamunotri, Gangotri and Badrinath.
The temple was built way back in the eighth century AD by Jagad Guru Adi Shankaracharya and it is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
