NEW DELHI: Comedian turned politician Bhagwant Mann has made remarkable victory in Punjab assembly elections as his party Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is at present leading in 89 seats.

From being a household name as a comedian to the upcoming occupant of Punjab's highest political office and AAP's chief ministerial candidate, Bhagwant has come a long way in his life.

Mann is all set to become Punjab's first Aam Aadmi party's chief minister as the party seems to win a majority of seats in the state and the celebration has already begun. An average of 11 exit polls has the AAP party at 63 out of 117 seats.

The face of Punjab's AAP in 2022 assembly polls had entered into politics in 2011 by joining the People's Party of Punjab after having a successful career as a comic actor.

In the year 2014 Mann had joined the Aam Aadmi Party and became the Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha for the party and since then he has been making a notable contribution to the party.

Bhagwant Mann was born to parents Mohinder Singh and Harpal Kaur residing in the Satauj region. He was born on 17 October 1973 in Sangrur located in Punjab.

Bhagwant Mann had participated in various inter-college competitions and youth comedy festivals at the time when he was a student.

Mann participated in a well-known television comedy show and gained much popularity across the state and India.

He came to be much recognized through his rustic Punjabi humour that connected political satire and this was before his popularity from the TV show.

Joining the People's Party of Punjab in 2011, Mann contested the election from Lehra constituency but lost. However, he won with 2 lakh votes later in the Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency after joining AAP.

The comic-turn politician had faced massive controversies in his life for being alcoholism but in AAP's public meeting in 2019, Mann had pledged to not touch alcohol.

Mann and his wife Inderjeet Kaur had a difficult marriage life and got separated in 2015 after having a daughter and a son. It was reported that Mann was unable to give time to his family and his wife had shifted to the US where he couldn't move with her.
