NEW DELHI: Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, washed victim Dashrath Rawat's feet on Thursday (July 6), following the horrifying incident involving a BJP leader who was caught on camera peeing on a tribal man's face in Sidhi. The CM also expressed regret to Rawat and expressed his anguish over the video.
On Tuesday night, Pravesh Shukla, the man who was seen on camera urinating on the labourer in Sidhi district, was taken into custody. An outcry was caused by a video of the conduct that went viral. Dashmat Rawat received an apology from the chief minister for the event. Shivraj Singh Chouhan's Twitter account posted images of him washing the laborer's feet.
In order to plant a seedling, Shivraj Singh Chouhan brought Dashmat Rawat to the Smart City Park in Bhopal. The Chief Minister and the worker were seen executing the task together.
Pravesh Shukla was the subject of a FIR under the SC/ST Act, Sections 294 (Obscene Acts), and 504 (Intentional Insult to Provoke Breach of the Peace) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Additionally, the accused is facing charges under the National Security Act (NSA). Following the event, the state administration on Wednesday partially destroyed a building owned by the accused.
The opposition, on the other hand, referred to this as a "insult" to native groups. According to the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath, the incident is an attack on tribal identity and a slight against notable figures like Tantya Mama and Birsa Munda.
On July 10, Congress leaders from the Legislative Assembly will meet with the governor to discuss the state's treatment of its Dalit and tribal populations, according to sources.
In a press conference on Wednesday, MLA and Congress working President Jitu Patwari declared that Congress MLAs would meet the Governor on July 10 with a list of atrocities done against tribal people and a point-by-point report.
