Mumbai: In a bid to ensure the smooth functioning of the state government, the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday, handed over the portfolios of nine rebel MLAs to others.
''The portfolios of the rebel ministers were being handed over to other ministers for ease of administration,'' an official statement read.
Presently, the Shiv Sena has four cabinet ministers, including CM Uddhav Thackeray, Aaditya Thackeray, Anil Parab, and Subhash Desai.
Before the rebel MLAs parted away from the party, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Shive Sena, had 10 cabinet-rank ministers and four Ministers of State (MoS), including two from the Sena quota.
Rebel Sena MLA Eknath Shinde is leading the revolt against the MVA government.
Reportedly, Urban Development, Public Works Department (Public Undertaking) of Eknath Shinde has been given to Subhash Desai, Water supply and Sanitation Department of Gulabrao Patil is allotted to Anil Parab, Agriculture Department of Dadaji Bhuse reassigned to Sandipanrao Bhumre and Higher and Technical Education Department of Uday Samant has been given to Aaditya Thackeray.
Meanwhile, Shinde has approached the Supreme Court challenging the disqualification notices issued by Maharashtra Deputy Speaker to 16 party MLAs and also the appointment of Ajay Choudhari as Shiv Sena Legislature Party leader.
