Maharashtra: A
man allegedly threw acid on his girlfriend and set her in Ablaze in Maharashtra
on Sunday.
The incident took place in the Neknoor area of Beed
district of Maharashtra.
The accused has been identified as Avinash Rajure (25)
who first attacked his girlfriend, Savitra D. Ankulkar(22) with acid and then
set her on fire by pouring petrol on her and fled from the spot.
A shepherd heard
the girl crying and immediately informed the police.
Later the woman was taken to the hospital where she
died.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bhaskar Sawant said,
"We took a statement of the woman on Saturday, but she didn't tell
anything about why she was attacked. She later died. A police team is going to
the hospital to get further information."
As per the preliminary investigations and a brief
"dying statement" of the girl, the couple was staying together in
Pune and they were coming home in Shelgaon village, Nanded district for Diwali
when Rajure attacked her and tried to burn her alive.
A case has been registered against Rajure under Indian
Penal Code Sections section 326A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of
acid, etc) and 307 (attempt to murder).
"He was picked up by the Neknoor Police from a hideout in Nanded and brought to Beed and produced before the District Court on Monday morning." Laxman Kendre, in-charge of the Neknoor Police Station said.
