NEW DELHI: Two exceptional fish farmers from Manipur, Laimujam Dinamani Singh of Tentha Khunou in Thoubal District and Salam Rohendro Singh of Laphupat Tera in Imphal West District, along with their spouses, have been invited as special guests by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Independence Day celebrations in New Delhi on August 15, 2023. These farmers, recognized for their remarkable achievements, are among the 1,800 distinguished invitees to witness the annual event at the historic Red Fort.

The selection of Dinamani and Rohendro as honored guests was initiated by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Government of India. This accolade comes in acknowledgment of their outstanding performance and substantial contributions to the advancement of the fisheries sector in Manipur, a testament to their dedication and innovation in fish farming.

Dinamani's excellence came to the forefront when he clinched the title of the highest fish producer, including the largest Meitei Sareng (Manipuri freshwater shark) producer, at the Ningol Chakouba Fish Fair and Fish Crop Competition 2022, and Emoinu Fish Festival 2023. These events, organized by the State Fisheries Department, showcased his commitment to quality fish production.

Likewise, Rohendro's achievements are equally noteworthy. He achieved the remarkable feat of being the foremost fish producer at the State Level Fish Fair held in 2020. His consistent dedication to fish farming and production has been recognized not only by local platforms but also by esteemed fisheries institutions such as the College of Fisheries, Tripura, and research centers under the Central Agricultural University, Imphal.

The Director of Fisheries, Manipur, Heisnam Balkrisna Singh, shared that the accommodations in New Delhi and local transportation for these two exemplary fish farmers and their spouses will be provided by the concerned ministry. This gesture reflects the government's appreciation for their impactful contributions and serves as an encouragement for further advancements in the fisheries sector.

In a celebratory gathering that marks the 77th anniversary of India's independence, these two fish farmers and their spouses will be able to witness the Prime Minister's address from the historic Red Fort. This recognition not only validates their efforts but also underscores the significance of the fisheries sector in India's growth and development.
