Mumbai Murder Case: Police Have Questioned 20 People So Far

MUMBAI: The Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar police in Maharashtra have initiated an investigation into a horrifying incident involving the discovery of the dismembered and cooked body parts of a 32-year-old woman in a flat on the outskirts of Mumbai. Over 20 individuals have provided their statements to the police in connection with the case.

The primary suspect in the case is Manoj Sane, a 56-year-old man who was in a live-in relationship with the victim, Saraswati Vaidya. He has been arrested on charges of murdering Vaidya and dismembering her body in their rented apartment on the 7th floor of a building in Mira Road, Thane district. Sane is currently in police custody until June 16.

The murder is believed to have occurred on June 4, although it was not discovered until June 7, when the police entered the couple's flat after receiving complaints from neighbors about a foul odor emanating from the premises.

During interrogation, Sane, who was employed at a ration shop, claimed that Vaidya had committed suicide by consuming poison and that he had only attempted to dispose of her body by dismembering it. He further asserted that he and Vaidya were married and not merely living together as partners. However, Sane disclosed that he was HIV-positive and had never engaged in any physical relationship with Vaidya.

Jayant Bajbale, the deputy commissioner of police for Zone I, reported that the investigation is currently focused on recovering evidence related to the case. So far, the police have recorded statements from 20 individuals. They have also collected DNA samples from Vaidya and her close relatives for comparison. The remains of Vaidya were handed over to her sisters, who performed her last rites.

Authorities are also examining the chat and call records of both the accused and the victim. Additionally, it has been revealed that Sane purchased pesticides from a shop in the western suburb of Borivali, suggesting a possible poisoning as the cause of Vaidya's death before her body was dismembered.

The police are diligently working to uncover the truth behind this gruesome crime. The investigation aims to gather substantial evidence from various sources, including witness testimonies, DNA analysis, and electronic communication records. As the case progresses, further details may emerge to shed light on the motive and circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Saraswati Vaidya.
