New Delhi: No Arrests As Yet After Daredevil Gunpoint Robbery, CM Flays LG

NEW DELHI: Police in Delhi have been unable to make any arrests as yet in Saturday’s bold gunpoint robbery of two Ola passengers in the heart of Delhi.

A political blame-game has already started and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has demanded that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinay Kumar Saxena, should resign from his post.

Footage from closed-circuit TV cameras showed four criminals wearing helmets waylaying the taxi in the Pragati Maidan tunnel, pointing a gun at the two passengers travelling inside and escaping from the scene with a bag of cash.

Following the daring robbery, a first information report (FIR) was registered at Tilak Marg police station. The FIR was filed under Sections 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pranav Tayal said the victim, named Patel Sajan Kumar, is employed as a delivery agent at Omiya enterprises in Chandni Chowk. He and his associate Jigar Patel were on their way to Gurugram to deliver the cash.

DCP Tayal informed that the victim duo had hired an Ola cab from Lal Qila and were on the way to Gurugram on the Ring Road. The cab had entered the tunnel when four persons on two motorcycles accosted their cab and robbed the bag at gun point. The bag is supposed to have contained Rs 1.5 lac to 2 lakh.

It has been 48 hours since the incident happened, but there have been no arrests made in the case so far. The incident is said to have taken place around 3:05 pm on Saturday, according to the FIR.

A senior police officer disclosed that they were probing the likelihood of it being an inside job. He also said that “it appeared the men were being followed”.

Meanwhile, Delhi CM Kejriwal demanded that Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinay Kumar Saxena, should resign on the heels of the robbery incident.

Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal said that the VK Saxena as well as the Central government should "make way for someone who can provide safety and security to the people of Delhi."

The latest flare-up comes after only a few days since Kejriwal shared his reply to a letter from Saxena about the law and order situation in Delhi, while accusing the L-G of passing the buck instead of resolving the current problem.

He tweeted, "Make way for someone who can provide safety n security to the people of Delhi. If Central govt is unable to make Delhi safe, hand it over to us. We will show u how to make a city safe for its citizens. [sic]"
