NEW DELHI: A new picture of former J&K CM Omar Abdullah over the Internet has drawn the attention of many people.
He is seen all bearded, smiling, and what many say quite "unrecognisable" and far removed from a more recognizable clean-shaven appearance of his in public. It has created quite a stir within political circles inviting comments from many political bigwigs.
" I could not recognize Omar in this picture. Am feeling sad. Unfortunate that this is happening in our democratic country. When will this end ?," current CM of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee tweeted.
Omar and many prominent leaders from Kashmir were put under detention after the abrogation of Article 370.
Omar had then tweeted, "I believe I’m being placed under house arrest from midnight tonight & the process has already started for other mainstream leaders. No way of knowing if this is true but if it is then I’ll see all of you on the other side of whatever is in store. Allah save us."
The special status on Jammu and Kashmir, as was guaranteed by Article 370 was removed. The announcement made by the Shah had created a massive uproar and political implications in the country. The new decision of “reorganising” Jammu and Kashmir, as stated by the Home Minister, was not being accepted well by the members of the parliament.
Before scrapping Article 370: J&K was the only state in India to have its own constitution. The state had its own constitution which was not applicable to other states of the country. The constitution had provided the state with special autonomy and separate state laws.
After scrapping Article 370 the state will not have a separate constitution for J&K and its citizens.
Revoking of the article had resulted in the creation of the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
