New Delhi: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday who always advocates the uses of electric vehicles, on Friday said that such vehicles will cost equal to petrol and diesel vehicles in the next two years.
Gadkari counted the benefits of EVs during a show named Agenda Aaj Tak 2021.
The Union Road and Transport Minister Gadkari used little math to further elaborate and promote the EVs in the show and said that at presently India imports petroleum worth Rs 8 lakh crore and it could increase further to amount of Rs 25 lakh crore in the coming years. Hence, we need to focus on the option so that the people of the country can e given a sustainable life.
Vouching for the benefits of EVs, Gadkari again took the help of calculation to simplify it and said that one needs to spend at 20,000 per month on petrol, if their engine of their car is run on petrol or diesel. But if the same car is an electric vehicle, then one needs to spend Rs 1,500 per month.
However, the minister made it clear that government will not bar people from using petrol and diesel vehicles when electric vehicles hit the market.
Gadkari also asserted that the cost of travelling 1 km comes to Rs 10 in case of a petrol vehicle. On the other hand, the same cost on diesel costs Rs 7. But the cost of electric vehicle is only Rs. 1 per km.
