Noida: The Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday shot a person, accused of raping a 12-year-old girl, in the state's Noida city.
As per reports, the accused, who is reportedly 20 years old, lured the girl and took her to an isolated area in Sector 32, and eventually forced himself on her.
As the matter came to light, a complaint was filed at the sector 24 police station following which the accused was nabbed.
However, the accused tried to escape when the police took him for medical examination and clashed with the police personnel following which police personnel opened fire which resulted in his injuries. He was taken into custody again.
"Near Sector 25, the accused managed to jump out of the police van and ran towards an isolated area. The police personnel soon surrounded him, but he attacked them with stones or bricks or whatever he got on the ground," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Ranvijay Singh was quoted as saying by PTI.
As per police officials, the accused is known to the victim as earlier had interacted with her a couple of times.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered against him under IPC 376 (Rape) and under provisions of the stringent Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
