New Delhi: Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Wednesday said that North East has the potential for an economic resurgence in the post-Corona period. He also mentioned that Aatma Nirbhar North-East would lead to Aatma Nirbhar Bharat.

The minister also said that the region has a lot of potential in the bamboo, tourism, handloom, and handicraft sectors, among others.

Singh further said, ''Post COVID-19 the region will play an important role in the resurgence of economy. North East has unlimited possibilities in several sectors like bamboo, tourism, handloom, and handicraft among others, and all the capitals of the region will be soon connected with the National Capital within the next 2 years''

The Bamboo Treatment Plant at Cane and Bamboo Technology Center (CBTC), Guwahati is set to be completed by September 2020 to give huge impetus to increase local business.

The DoNER Minister also added, ''the ministry has funded a Brahmaputra Study Centre at the Gauhati University to study flood and related issues. A bamboo park is coming up at Dima Hasao district in Assam.''

The ministry has already sanctioned five projects costing Rs.193.32 crore to strengthen health infrastructure in the region's fight against COVID-19 in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Nagaland.
