ODISHA: A 58-year-old Odisha MLA of Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Angada Kanhar proves that age is just a number by appearing in the ongoing matric examination conducted in the state.

The MLA has fulfilled his dream of appearing in class 10th exam, 40 years after dropping out of his school in 1978. Now after four decades he has been able to complete his education left in the middle.

On Friday 29 April, the BJD MLA was spotted sitting the first paper examination of class 10 conducted by BSE (Board of Secondary Education).

Kanhar appeared at the exam centre at Rujangi High School in Pitabari of Odisha for the English exam along with one of his friends who is a Sarpanch.

On speaking about his decision Kanhar informed that he was in class X in the year 1978 but at that time he was unable to appear for matric exams due to certain family conditions.

He added that in recent days a lot of people told him that nowadays many appear for the board examination at the age of 50 and above.

Therefore he took the decision to appear for the board examination as there is no age barrier to learn or to sit in exams and there is nothing to be ashamed of.

The headmistress of Rujangi High School, Archana Bas said that the exam conducted at the centre is open to all and it is specially conducted for people who are school dropouts or those who have left their education in between due to certain reasons.

She further informed apart from a Sarpanch and the MLA, a total of 63 students have appeared for the SIOS Odisha State Open Schooling at the exam centre of Rujangi High School.

It may be mentioned that the class X Odisha Boards examination started on Friday and a total of 5.8 lakh students have appeared for the exam.
