NEW DELHI: Neeraj Chopra, who has brought laurels to the country by his superb performance in the Olympic Games, has signed his first set of endorsement deals after the Tokyo games. The companies with which he has signed endorsements include Byju's, Tata AIA Life Insurance and a leading pharmaceutical brand.
JSW Sports, the agency which represents the 23-year-old javelin thrower, is in talks to finalise a number of deals with some luxury auto and apparel brands in a few weeks. The agency's chief executive Mustafa Ghouse said the deals would be multi-year deals and these would run up to the Paris Olympics. Chopra will not do endorsements for any alcohol or tobacco brands, the chief executive mentioned.
Chopra had become an overnight sensation after he won a gold medal in the men's javelin throw last month. He is the second Indian athlete to have won an individual gold medal in the Olympic.
The chief executive also said that they would be selective about signing of brands for endorsements for the fact Chopra has a busy schedule ahead due to his training camps in India and outside the country over the next 12 to 14 months.
Chopra, who has a huge fan following on social media with around four million followers on Instagram and over 596,300 followers on Twitter, used to charge an annual Rs. 15-20 lakh per endorsement. The number of his followers on Instagram increased by 1.1. million after he won the gold medal in the Olympic Games this year.
