New Delhi: In the wake of rising omicron cases in the country, the Allahabad High Court has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ban rallies and public meetings of political parties.
Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, while hearing a bail petition on December 23, appealed to the Prime Minister to consider postponing the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.
Notably, the UP Assembly election is scheduled to be held in February.
Citing several news reports, the High Court asserted that the third wave is at our doorstep.
The High Court said that the Prime Minister of our country, who has run the campaign of free corona vaccination in a country with a huge population like India, is commendable and the court praises him. At the same time, the court requests the PM to consider stopping and postponing the rallies, meetings and upcoming elections, taking strong steps given the situation of this dreadful epidemic, because of Jaan Hai To Jahan Hai.
New cases of COVID have started increasing in the state. Additional Chief Secretary Health Amit Mohan Prasad said on Thursday that more than 1.91 lakh samples have been tested in the state in the last 24 hours of which 31 new cases have been reported, while 12 people have recovered.
The active cases of COVID in the state have increased to 236. So far, more than 19.12 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the state. More than 12.40 crores have taken the first dose.
