NEW DELHI: On Friday, Opposition MPs from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) moved suspension of business notices in the Rajya Sabha, demanding a discussion on the Manipur violence.

AAP MP Raghav Chadha and RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha gave notices in the Parliament’s Upper House for suspension of business over the situation in Manipur, urging that discussions be held on the BJP govt’s failure to control the violent situation in the Northeastern state.

Chadha, in his notice, demanded that discussion be held on the “breakdown of law and order in state of Manipur”, which he said is continuing to happen, “due to the failure of Central and State government.”

The AAP parliamentarian wrote in his notice about how the violence in Manipur has resulted in loss of precious lives, which he squarely blamed on the failure and incompetence of the BJP Central and State governments.

RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha, writing on the same lines through his notice, demanded “discussion on Union and State government’s failure to restore peace and maintain law and order in the state of Manipur.”

Jha also pressed for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a statement in the House on the Manipur issue, following which, he demanded that a detailed and comprehensive discussion take place in the Upper House.

Notably, since the outbreak of ethnic clashes in Manipur on May 3, hundreds of people have lost their lives while thousands more have been forced to leave their homes and seek refuge in the relief camps both in the state and in the neighbouring states of Assam and Mizoram.

On the other hand, Congress MP Manish Tewari forwarded a notice for an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, while demanding a discussion on the border situation with China.

Tewari wrote in his notice, “I urge the Government to inform the House on the situation at the border with China, attempts made by it to mediate and settle the border dispute, and the policies introduced to preserve and protect India’s integrity against possible Chinese aggressions.”

Earlier, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha trained his guns at the BJP-led Central government over the tense situation in both states of Haryana and Manipur ruled by the BJP, saying that the nation isn’t safe under the leadership of the BJP.

“One thing is clear, the nation is not safe under BJP’s leadership. BJP can’t give peace to this nation. Manipur and Haryana are both burning. BJP is unsuccessful in giving peace, harmony and good law and order to this country. BJP is at the Centre and also in Manipur and Haryana. Still, these types of things happen. This can mean two things; they are either complacent or complicit,” said the AAP leader.
