PM Modi Along with All CMs Likely to Get Vaccinated in 2nd Phase of Inoculation Drive

NEW DELHI: In the second phase of the Covid inoculation drive which was launched on January 16, 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with all the chief ministers of the respective states will receive the vaccine.

According to the inoculation drive, in the second phase, those above 50 years of age and people with comorbidities will be vaccinated.

All MPs and MLAs who are above 50 will also be vaccinated.

In a meeting with chief ministers, PM Modi had said there was no need to panic and that everyone above 50 years of age will be vaccinated in the second phase.

Covishield and Covaxin are the two vaccines approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for emergency use. Covishield is developed in Pune whereas Bharat Biotech's Covaxin is from Hyderabad.

Earlier, speaking to media, Assam State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "the COVID-19 vaccine will take 45 days for the immunity to develop in the human body and start fighting against the virus."

The minister also stated that the second dose will be given after 28 days, following which the dose will take another 14 days for the antibodies to develop.

Meanwhile, the vaccine is not recommended for pregnant women including from those in the medical fraternity and children below 18 years are asked not to asked to take the dose.

In the 1st phase all the covid warriors which include doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, ambulance drivers, cleaning staff which were on the field physically dealing with the Covid patients which will be around 1.9 lakhs, health workers. (private and government).

On January 20, Assam state government received an additional shipment of-20 packages, i.e. 636 Kg of COVID-19 Vaccine while 3 packages worth 91 Kg for Meghalaya government from the Serum Institute of India, Pune.

As per data of Union Health Ministry, a total of 7,86,842 beneficiaries have been vaccinated for the novel coronavirus as on 20 January 2021, 06:00 PM.
