GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation on the prevailing COVID-19 situation assured the people of India that the government along with the private sector is taking every possible step to fight the COVID situation. He said that the country is much better prepared to handle the situation.
"I am aware of the pain that you all are going through. As a member of your family, I m part of your pain, grief. I salute all the frontline workers -Safai Karmacharis, ambulance drivers, police personnel, doctors, nurses, caregivers. You all have been working tirelessly. You did the same in the first phase of COVID," PM Modi said addressing the nation amid soaring COVID cases and deaths.
Further, the Prime Minister said that India has the cheapest COVID vaccine and the private sector has shown exceptional skills as far as innovation and technology are concerned.
Currently, India has made two vaccines available and has successfully embarked on a massive vaccination drive (Tika Utsav). The approval process for vaccines has been fast-tracked, the PM said.
It is to be mentioned here that a large number of senior citizens, frontline workers have,, already have taken another major decision to vaccinate everyone above 18 years of age.
PM Modi urged people not to listen to rumours and requested all not to create panic and said that Lockdown has to be India's last resort.
"I will request states too to ensure that we look at lockdown as the last resort," PM Modi said.
Addressing the nation, the Prime Minister requested the states to focus on micro containment zones and adopt every possible way anti-COVID measures to stay COVID free.
"Let us live up to the spirit and preachings of Lord Ram and Prophet Mohammad as we celebrate Nav Ratra and the holy month of Ramzan, " added PM Modi.
Meanwhile, as India completes with 12 crore vaccinations, PM Modi acknowledged the fact that that the country is facing a shortage of oxygen and hospital beds but he said that the government is prepared to handle the situation.
The PM also listed out how the government along with the private sector, plans to address the situation which has already escalated to a different level.
Notably, India has already recorded over 1.53 crore COVID cases, surpassing the US. India recorded the highest signal day spike in the number of deaths at 1,637 on Monday.
