New Delhi: The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi along with the Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering has introduced the RuPay card Phase-II. The new RuPay card, which was launched today, will allow the cardholders from Bhutan access the RuPay network in India.
Phase I of the project was jointly launched by both of the Prime Ministers, when PM Modi visited Bhutan in August 2019. This year, the Phase II cards were launched through a web conference.
While addressing the meeting through video conference, PM Modi said that both the countries, India and Bhutan have deeply cooperated in various field, which includes ISRO preparation to Launch Bhutanese satellite into space.
Modi said that our country stands with our neighbouring country Bhutan, during these tough times of a global pandemic. India will always be there to meet the requirements of Bhutan, PM Modi further added.
The Ministry of External Affairs mentioned in a statement that now Bhutanese card holders can use or access the RuPay network in our country. In Phase I of this project, the Indians visiting Bhutan had access to the ATMs and Point of Sale (PoS) terminals across the neighbouring country.
The newly launched RuPay card is a debit and credit card payment network of India. It is accepted at ATMs, E-commerce websites and also at PoS devices.
