Guwahati:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed a meeting via video
conference with the Chief Ministers about the continuous fight against the
Covid-19 and other pertinent issues.
Home Minister, Amit Shah was present at the virtual meeting.
Discussing the COVID strategy of India PM Modi said that negligence on the part of the common man has led to the spread of the virus despite the fact that the country had improved its recovery rate in the past few months.
He said that those working on the vaccines are doing
their job but people need to focus on only ensuring that they are alert and
transmission is curbed. "We have to bring the positivity rate under 5 percent,"
the Prime Minister said at the meet which was also attended by Assam Chief
Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health Minister Himanta Bishwa Sarma.
He also discussed the vaccine distribution strategy. He
said the central government is also taking measures for quick and effective
delivery of the coronavirus vaccine once it is available.
He further said that five vaccine candidates are in
advanced stages of development in India, out of which four are in Phase II and
III and one is in Phase-I and II trials.
Although the national daily COVID-19 case count has
been below 50,000 for some time, a boom has been seen in many urban centers,
resulting in the enforcement of several measures, including curfew in some
cities.
According to data from the Union Health Ministry
updated on Tuesday, 37,975 new coronavirus infections were reported in India in
a single day taking the country's COVID-19 caseload to 91.77 lakh.
