New Delhi: A commemorative coin of Rs 75 was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This was released on Friday to mark the 75th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations.
PM Modi spoke on the occasion via web telecast. 17 new biofortified crop varieties were also released by PM Modi. He emphasised on the government's commitment towards the procurement of Agri crops at minimum support price (MSP).
"MSP and government procurement are an important part of the country's food security. It is important that it continues to function with better facilities and in a scientific way. We are committed towards this," PM Modi said.
PM Modi added that the Centre is also promoting high nutrition crops and millets to address the country's malnutrition issue.
The efforts are being made by the government to improve the Mandi infrastructure so that MSP buying continues in a scientific way.
The government in the last six years have been investing to boost the infrastructural facilities at Agriculture Produce Marketing Committees (APMCs).
Earlier on Monday, to celebrate the Birth Centenary of Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia, PM Modi released a commemorative coin of Rs 100 denomination.
