JAIPUR: At a rally on Wednesday on Rajasthan's Abu Road, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ripped into the Congress and charged that the group was endangering the lives of Hakki Pikki tribal members who were trapped in Sudan.

According to the prime minister, Congress identified these tribal members in Sudan and caused a "ruckus" in anticipation of the elections, endangering their lives.

"At the time when some members of the Hakki Pikki tribe from Karnataka were stuck in Sudan and the BJP government was trying to evacuate them, Congress in view of elections in the country started creating a ruckus about it and risked lives of these tribals by identifying them in Sudan," PM Modi said.

He added, "Congress thought that one of the members of this community might get harmed in Sudan and this would give them an advantage in the elections. But Congress forgot that Modi can cross any limit for the safety of every Indian."

Operation Kaveri enabled the evacuation of members of the Karnataka-based Hakki Pikki tribe from Sudan.

In a second attack on the Congress, Prime Minister Modi charged that the group was callous to the needs of the tribal people.

He further slammed the Congress and said that he would go to any extent to save Indians who are in danger. “I think the Congress still fails to identify who Narendra Modi is. Let me tell you all, I am ready to go to any extent to save Indians who are in trouble outside the country,” added PM Modi.

A few days ago, the Twitter fights between former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah and minister of external affairs Jaishankar over the evacuation of the Hakki Pikki clan garnered headlines. When Siddaramaiah tweeted asking the union minister to step in and bring the Indians in Sudan home,

Jaishankar tweeted, “Simply appalled at your tweet! There are lives at stake; don’t do politics. Since the fighting started on April 14th, the Embassy of India in Khartoum has been continuously in touch with most Indian Nationals and PIOs in Sudan.”

Siddaramaiah tweeted in reaction to the union minister., “Since you are the External Affairs Minister@DrSJaishankar, I have appealed you for help. If you are busy getting appalled please point us to the person who can help us bring our people back.”

"The Hakki Pikki tribe has a close relation with Maharana Pratap. Reminded the people of how Congress was insensitive towards this tribal community for selfish gains," PM Modi said.

The prime minister launched several development projects while he was in Rajasthan for a day. He also went to Nathdwara.
