NEW DELHI: On Saturday at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the eighth meeting of the Niti Aayog governing council. The meeting's subject is "Viksit Bharat @2047: Role of Team India," and it will be held in the new Convention Centre. The meeting will be led by PM Modi in his capacity as NITI Aayog's chairman.
In order to make India a developed country by 2047, PM Modi is anticipated to speak on issues relating to infrastructure development, women's empowerment, skill development, and health.
"The Meeting will see the participation of Chief Ministers/Lt Governors of all States and Union Territories, Union Ministers as ex-officio Members, and the Vice Chairman and Members of NITI Aayog", the NITI Aayog stated. These topics were thoroughly discussed at the second Chief Secretaries Conference, which was held in January 2023 as a prelude to the 8th Governing Council Meeting.
"Wide-ranging stakeholder consultations and brainstorming sessions with subject experts, academia and practitioners were held prior to the Conference in order to gain well-rounded grassroots-level perspectives," it further said.
The announcement added that the 2nd Chief Secretaries Conference, which the Prime Minister attended, brought together a select group of Secretaries from the Government of India and Chief Secretaries from all States and UTs who actively participated by sharing topical best practises and policy insights.
India, which has the fifth-largest economy in the world and is the most populated country, is at a point in its economic development trajectory when it can experience increased growth over the next 25 years, according to the statement. In this regard, the 8th Governing Council Meeting offers a chance to develop a blueprint for Viksit Bharat by 2047 in which the Centre and States can collaborate as Team India.
The NITI Aayog is responsible for encouraging cooperative federalism and serving as the top think tank for public policy for the Indian government. By including Indian State Governments in the formulation of economic policy using a bottom-up method, it also aids in the transition away from bargaining federalism. The NDA government established it in 2015 to take the position of the top-down Planning Commission.
In addition to the Chief Ministers of Delhi and Puducherry, the Lieutenant Governors of all UTs, and a vice-chairman chosen by the Prime Minister make up the NITI Aayog council, which is headed by the Prime Minister.
Aside from that, prestigious research institutions and universities are used to pick temporary members. An executive director, four former officials, and three part-time members make up this group of members.
