President Droupadi Murmu Honored Armed Forces Personnel with Distinguished Service Awards

NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu presented 84 active-duty and retired members of the armed forces and the Indian Coast Guard on Tuesday with Distinguished Service Awards, including 52 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals, according to a statement from the Defence Ministry.

According to the official list of recipients, Lt. Gen. ADS Aujla, a former commander of the Chinar Corps located in Srinagar and in charge of protecting the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kashmir Valley, received the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM).

The staff members received 28 Param Vishisht Seva Medals (PVSMs), one Bar to AVSM, three UYSMs, and 52 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals (AVSMs) for exemplary service.

According to the Ministry's list of awardees, AVSMs were given to Maj. Gen. Alok Kacker of the Army's Infantry, Maj. Gen. Sanjay Kumar Vidyarthi of the Corps of Engineers, Vice Admirals Deepak Kapoor and Adhir Arora of the Navy, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit of the IAF, and Maj. Gen. Alok Kacker.

During a defense investiture ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu also awarded 29 Shaurya Chakras, including five posthumously, to members of the armed forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and State/Union Territory police, according to a statement from the Defence Ministry.

President Murmu awarded members of the Army, paramilitary, and police forces eight Kirti Chakras on May 9—five of them posthumously—for exhibiting unwavering fortitude and exceptional gallantry while performing their duties.

After the Ashok Chakra and Kirti Chakra, the Shaurya Chakra is India's third-highest peacetime gallantry honour.

Taking on PM Narendra Modi tweeted , "Attended the Defence Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan where the Distinguished Service Awards were presented. We are proud of all those who have been conferred these awards."
