New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for their victory in US Presidential Elections. Biden defeated incumbent US President Donald Trump with 290 electoral votes. Trump secured 214 electoral votes.
Democrat Joe Biden will be the 46th President of United States of America and will acquire the office of the President in January 2021.
President Kovind tweeted: "My sincere felicitations to Joseph R. Biden on his election as President of the United States of America and @KamalaHarris, as Vice President. I wish @JoeBiden a successful tenure and look forward to working with him to further strengthen India-US relations."
PM Modi also mentioned strengthening India-US relations. He wrote: "Congratulations @JoeBiden on your spectacular victory! As the VP, your contribution to strengthening Indo-US relations was critical and invaluable. I look forward to working closely together once again to take India-US relations to greater heights."
The 56-year-old California senator, Kamala Harris is the first woman to hold the office of the Vice President of USA. She is also the first Black, first Indian-American, and first Asian Vice President of USA.
PM Modi calls her success a 'pathbreaking' one and terms her success as 'a matter of immense pride' for all the Indian-Americans. He wrote: "Heartiest congratulations @KamalaHarris! Your success is pathbreaking, and a matter of immense pride not just for your chittis, but also for all Indian-Americans. I am confident that the vibrant India-US ties will get even stronger with your support and leadership."
