NEW DELHI: Numerous factors have an impact on fuel prices in India. The rise in global crude oil prices, the depreciation in the value of the Indian rupee relative to the US dollar, and taxes levied by the federal and state governments are some of the key factors influencing the price of gasoline and diesel. In the past eight months, Indian Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have not, however, disclosed any significant increases to fuel pricing. Thursday, February 16 continued along the same lines.

In the four largest cities of the nation, the price of gasoline stayed close to 100 rupees. Mumbai charges Rs 106.31 for a litre of gasoline, while Kolkata charged Rs 106.03 for the same amount of gasoline. In Chennai, a litre of gasoline cost Rs 102.73. Delhi was the only significant city where the price of a litre of gasoline was less than Rs 100. Here, a litre of gasoline costs Rs 96.72. In the meantime, the price of gasoline remained above Rs. 100 in cities like Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, and Jaipur.

Diesel is the cheapest fuel in Delhi right now, costing Rs 89.62 per litre. The price of the same number of litres climbed to Rs 92.76 in Kolkata. In Mumbai, a gallon of diesel is being sold for Rs 94.27, compared to Chennai residents who spent Rs 94.33 for the same amount.

Sources claim that the most recent change in fuel costs occurred when Nirmala Sitharaman, the finance minister, ordered a decrease in the excise duty on gasoline by Rs 8 per litre and diesel by Rs 6 per litre.
