Prime Minister Narendra Modi, post-celebration of India's Independence Day, has left for a two-day visit to Bhutan. As stated by PM Modi and official sources, this visit to Bhutan is aimed at promoting the "time-tested friendship" between the two countries towards the growth and development of both the nations.
Before departing for Bhutan, PM Modi has stated it in his departure statement that this visit to the Himalayan nation is a reflection as to how important a role Bhutan plays for India. The Prime minister termed Bhutan as a "trusted friend and neighbour". Modi also expressed his confidence that this visit to the neighbouring country will work towards promoting the friendship between the two countries and this will help in strengthening the future and progress of both nation's people.

The very recent tweet made by PM Modi states that he has landed on the grounds of Bhutan who was greeted with a warm gesture by Bhutan Prime Minister Lotay Tshering.
This visit by the Indian PM can be marked as the beginning of new beginnings, new hopes and new developments for both the countries. An official statement issued on the first day of the visit by Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale states that PM Modi will call on Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck followed by delegation-level talks with his Bhutanese counterpart Lotay Tshering.
Both the PMs are expected to discuss issues of mutual interest which basically includes regional and other issues. Modi's visit will also include the inauguration of the Mangdechhu hydropower project. The students of the Royal University of Bhutan will also be addressed by PM Modi, followed by a lunch hosted by the King and Queen of Bhutan in the honour of the Indian Prime Minister.
This bilateral exchange will include three emerging policies of India and will include significant discussions on bio-diversity, water, cultural ecology, mineral resources, historical trade connectivity, pilgrimages, traditional medicinal practices and agricultural heritage.
