Racial discrimination: youth spit on Manipuri woman in Mumbai

Mumbai: Amidst the deadly coronavirus scare, North-east Indian people, who are staying or residing in various places in the country, have increasingly become targets of racial discrimination. After several such incidents happened in different places of the main land India including Delhi, a youth spat on a 25-year-old woman in Mumbai, on Sunday afternoon. The incident happened in Kalina Main Signal in Mumbai. Later, the victim filed a complaint with the Vakola Police Station. She said to media that the she has been staying in Mumbai for last six years and for the first time such incident happened with her in the city. On the other hand, expressing shock at the incident, General Secretary of the Manipur Students' Association Delhi, said to media that they had strongly condemned the incident which was apparently a case of racial discrimination. "We condemn the incident that happened earlier today. There are also various other incidents which are similar to this and we strongly decry such acts which are apparently racially motivated," the students' leader added. A few days ago Union Minister and MP from Arunachal Pradesh Kiren Rijiju had strongly criticised the racial discrimination against North-east Indian people in their own country and demanded strong action against the perpetrators.
