Hyderabad: At least seven people were injured after an explosion at a drug manufacturing factory in Hyderabad that triggered a fire on Saturday. The incident took place at Vindhya Organics Pvt Ltd in Industrial Development area, Bollaram of Hyderabad.

The Hyderabad police said that a solvent was kept to check its reaction which had caught fire. The injured have been shifted to hospital and rescue operation is on.

Sangarareddy divisional fire officer V Srinivas said that three fire engines were rushed to the spot as thick fumes were seen billowing after the explosion inside Vindhya Organics. The explosion had created chaos inside the factory because of which workers could be seen running outside the factory.

As many as 11 workers were shifted to a hospital and many are feared trapped inside the factory. "The fire erupted in the factory supposedly due to the explosion of the reactor. We are trying our best to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas," Srinivas said.

He also added that the situation inside the factory cannot be ascertained immediately as it was difficult to enter premises. "We are making attempts to go in while dousing fire gradually," he said.

Officials of the factory said that it is not exactly known yet how many workers were there inside the factory. The company authorities are examining the duty chart to find out the exact number. Furnaces and reactors in adjacent units have been shut and workers are being evacuated as a precaution.

In another explosion at Hyderabad earlier this year, one person was injured when a container exploded at Asbestos Colony in Jagathgirigutta.

The explosion had occurred when a person named Yousuf Ali Khan got down from an auto-rickshaw at the Asbestos colony and stepped on some small container left near a compound wall of the house.
