London- According to a study conducted in the UK on Wednesday, a single dose of the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccines brings down the chances of an infected person spreading the deadly infectious to another member in the same household by up to 50%. 

The research, conducted by the Public Health England (PHE) concurred that the people who got infected after three weeks from being administered a single dose of the were between 38 and 49 percent less likely to pass on the infection to the members of their household who were unvaccinated. 

"This is terrific news -- we already know vaccines save lives and this study is the most comprehensive real-world data showing they also cut transmission of this deadly virus, "Matt Hancock, the British Health Secretary said. Read more

He also added by saying that this research further reinforces the fact that vaccines are the best way out of this pandemic as they protect you and they may prevent you from unknowingly infecting someone in your household. 

The data for this research was obtained from over 57,000 contacts in 24,000 households where they compared lab-confirmed cases that received vaccinations to nearly one million cases of unvaccinated people. 

Another study conducted previously showed that four weeks after a person is administered a single dose of vaccine, their risk of developing a symptomatic infection in the first place reduces up to 65%. 

The PHE deemed closed spaces like household premises, office spaces, and prisons to be at a high risk of transmission of this deadly infectious disease. 

Similarly, Dr. VK Paul, head of the COVID-task force in India, recommends people to wear masks at their homes too in order to break the chain of transmission of the deadly infectious virus. Read more

Meanwhile, India on Tuesday witnessed another highest single-day spike in the cases of the novel coronavirus with 3,60,960 fresh cases thereby pushing the total caseload of the country to 1.79 crores. 3,293 fresh cases of COVID-induced fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours with India crossing over a total caseload of over two lakh deaths according to the Union health ministry data.
