New Delhi: In a big announcement made on Monday, starting May 1, all above 18 years will be vaccinated. This was decided after a series of meeting held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi throughout the day on today.
All above 18 years of people will be vaccinated in "a liberalised and accelerated Phase 3 strategy of COVID-19 vaccination", the government said in a statement.
The decision comes on a day when India reported a new record high of 2.73 lakh cases in a day. India has crossed 1.5 crore COVID cases.
So far, only those above 45 years are being vaccinated, preference being given to frontline workers.
"Government has been working hard from over a year to ensure that maximum numbers of Indians are able to get the vaccine in the shortest possible of time," PM Modi said.
