Supreme Court Takes Cognizance of Manipuri Women's Abuse, Seeks Government Accountability

NEW DELHI: In response to the distressing incident where a video emerged showing two Manipuri women being paraded naked, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud expressed deep concern and took suo moto cognizance of the matter. The Supreme Court made it clear that using women as instruments in a communal strife situation was completely unacceptable and amounted to gross constitutional abuse. The court firmly stated that it would intervene if the government failed to take appropriate action against the perpetrators involved in this heinous act.

"Simply unacceptable. Using women as an instrument in an area of communal strife. Grossest of constitutional abuse. We are deeply disturbed by the videos which have emerged. If the government does not act, we will," the CJI remarked.

Let Centre and State apprise court on steps taken," the Court ordered.
