GUWAHATI: A 15-year-old boy died after getting electrocuted in at an OYO Rooms hotel in South East Delhi. The incident took place on October 14. The boy was reportedly bathing when his roommate heard a shout.

As the hotel staffs arrived from the ventilation window, they found him lying unconscious.

According to sources, the boy was visiting Delhi from Dehradun, in neighbouring Uttarakhand, to participate in a shooting competition.

It may be mentioned that, OYO, one of India’s most-funded and widely celebrated tech start-ups has for long been at the receiving end of customer grievances about poor and faulty services. This case has sparked more concern regarding the same.

According to Chinmoy Biswal, deputy commissioner of police (southeast), the police received information around 12.30 pm on Sunday and was rushed to Apollo hospital where he was declared brought dead. No injuries were found on the body.

The victim and five other boys and their coach Amar Singh had come to Delhi on Wednesday for the competition at Karni Singh Shooting Range, the DCP said.

As reported by a police, four of the six boys had returned on Saturday. Two boys and Coach Amar Singh stayed as their tournament was scheduled to complete by October 17.

A case was also filed by the coach, under section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.

An OYO spokesperson said they were cooperating with police. Police said they have sealed the hotel.
