New Delhi: The Ayurveda Day of 2020 will focus on the potential role of Ayurveda in the management of COVID-19 and how it can help build immunity. It will be observed on November 13.

The practice to observe the Ayurveda Day was started by the Union Ministry of Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Sidda and Homoeopathy) in the year 2016. The Ayurveda Day falls on Dhanwantri Jayanti. According to Hindu mythology, Dhanwantri is the god of medicine.

The Ayush ministry said in a statement that the main aim is to focus on the strengths of Ayurveda, and its unique treatment principles to reduce the burden of the disease and related mortality. The statement said, "it also aims to tap into the potential of Ayurveda to contribute towards National Health Policy and National Health programmes, and to promote its principles of healing in society."

A webinar will be organised on the occasion on the theme - Ayurveda for COVID -19 pandemic. Around 1.5 lakh participants from all over the world are expected to participate in this webinar, said the ministry.

The State and Union Territory governments will separately organise events on the occasion. The events include radio talk, health camps, quiz programme, and webinars.

To spread the message to a wider audience, the ministry will be engaging with other stakeholders, such as Ayurveda practitioners' association, Ayurveda colleges, Ayurveda drug manufacturing associations, etc.

The statement further stated, "Ayurveda, the original healthcare tradition of humanity, is not just a medical system, but a manifestation of our symbiotic relationship with nature. It is a well-documented system of healthcare, where the prevention of disease and promotion of health are given due consideration."
