This Hospital in Remote Bangladesh Has Been Regarded as 'The Most Outstanding New Structure' Globally

DHAKA: One of the hospitals located in the remote area of Bangladesh is now regarded as the most outstanding new structure across the globe.

The hospital named Friendship Hospital in Satkhira has received the great honour of making its place in world architect as RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) has awarded it with the worldwide prize 2021.

The most outstanding new structure of Friendship Hospital is visible in the Stakhira district that falls under the Khulna Division which is located in the southwestern region of Bangladesh.

The Friendship Hospital in Satkhira is a community hospital with 80 beds located in a cyclone-prone region. It is reported that the outstanding structure of the hospital was set up at a very low cost.

The hospital is designed by Keshef Chowdhury who is an architect from Bangladesh and the construction work of the entire hospital is done with local bricks.

The hospital is declared as the winner among the top three finalists. The jury to announce the winner was headed by well-known architect Odile Decq.

As per the statement by the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Friendship Hospital was designed in such a way that it can deal with and successfully encounter the tangible world climate change indications of expanding seawater within the areas surrounded by the hospital.

According to reports, the number of courtyards in the hospital gives natural light and ventilation and the canal that runs across the region is used for collecting important rainwater as the groundwater in the area proves to be completely useless for various purposes.

It is also said that the water channel in the hospital provides visual relief and helps in microclimatic cooling. The water channel sometimes acts as a much helpful technique of distraction as through this many patients and their family members often get distracted from the tension about the disease.

The noted architect Decq said that all this forms a structure that consists of human touch and gets mixed harmoniously with the environment of areas located close to the hospital.

RIBA stated that the hospital contains an architecture of protection and kindness that signifies the Friendship NGO's selfless aim to bring hopes and dignity for communities through various social innovations.
