GUWAHATI: The
Tourism and Culture Ministers Conference of the North Eastern States has
started from today in Guwahati.
The two-day long event was organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India is currently underway at Hotel Radisson Blu in Guwahati.
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma along with G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism, Culture and DoNER; Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union MoS for Culture and Parliamentary Affairs and Ajay Bhatt, Union MoS for Tourism and Defense attended the session on Monday.
The Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on his twitter, "Tourism and culture are vital engines of growth of North East. With Hon PM Sri @narendramodi 's vision and blessings we've an opportunity to harness region's best potential. It becomes further convenient with Sri @kishanreddybjp entrusted with both DONER & @tourismgoi portfolios".
He also wrote, Grateful to Union Ministers Sri @kishanreddybjp Sri @arjunrammeghwal Sri @AjaybhattBJP4UK for gracing the two day conference of Tourism & Culture Ministers of the NE region. We must step up investments on road connectivity to get best of our tourism potential. @MDoNER_India".
The chief
minister claimed that due to the poor road connectivity most of the tourist
destinations are not well promoted.
CM Sarma has also urged the Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy to invest more on road connectivity within the tourist destinations of the NE states.
"To develop the NE region, tourism and culture is the sector in which we have to focus", he said.
During the programme, an MoU was also signed between the Ministry of Tourism and IRCTC for cooperation in promoting domestic tourism and development of new tourism products.
