New Delhi: Early trends show that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has crossed the halfway mark. The saffron party, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is looking to retain its power in Uttar Pradesh.
As per the data shares by Election Commission of India (ECI) on round 1 of counting shows that Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav is leading in his constituency, Karhal, and BJP's SP Singh Baghel is second.
After seven phases of polling, counting of votes is going on for all the seats in Uttar Pradesh today. This assembly election of UP is being considered as the semi-final of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections following which all parties have left no stone unturned.
There are total 403 seats in the UP Legislative Assembly and to form a government with an absolute majority, any party must win at least 202 seats. Earlier in the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP had won 312 seats alone.
BJP had fought the last election without any CM face, but this time the election was fought with the face of Yogi Adityanath in front.
