New Delhi: In the time of digital era, online payments have emerged as a blessing for masses across the world as it gives one comfort in transferring money or paying bills in just a few clicks.

Coming to such platforms, one name generally hits the mind of every commoner which is known as Unified Payment Interface (UPI). UPI is one of the most preferred methods while making cashless transactions. However, when a platform is being used much, then the possibility of fraud and scams also increases.

If we go back, we can find reports related to scams of UPI users. So, if you use such platforms on a regular basis, some safety measures while making a digital transaction are a must.

Follow these five steps to avoid online payment scams/frauds:

Sharing of UPI & PIN:

One should never share your UPI and PIN with any customer care call or messages who is claiming to represent some government institution or bank or some known company. They will never ask for your UPI PIN. These calls play around with your fear of losing your account access or maybe some important update in an app. Always check the details of the SMS senders or caller. If someone is asking for your PIN details, it is clear that the caller is a fraudster.

Avoiding Randon Payment Requests:

There are many UPI applications that have a SPAM filter in place which tracks payment requests from certain UPI IDs. In that case, you will be warned if you come across any such identity. One should only initiate the transaction after if they are 100 percent sure that the person on the other hand is not a fraudster. However, you will get an option to 'Pay' or 'Decline'. If accidentally you make the payment, in that case, you will never get your money back.

Using of verified apps only:

Before installing any such apps, you should ensure that the app is authentic and verified. One should always download such apps from the official Play Store like Google Play store, windows App Store or Apple App store.

Change UPI pin frequently:

It is very important to keep changing your UPI pin every month, if not so then a quarterly change of PIN will be a good practice in order to stay away from frauds and scams.

Avoid clicking on suspicious links on SMS or emails:

One should always avoid clicking these links which attract your attention with claims of lottery or a job overseas. Such links may lead you to a phishing site and rob you off your mobile's security features.
