DEHRADUN: Following in the footsteps of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday announced a statewide Madrassa survey in his state.
"There is a need for a survey of madrassas in the state. The government is paying attention to this. Our priority is that the surveys will be done properly as these institutions are very important," said Dhami in a statement.
Uttar Pradesh government too started the survey on Tuesday which will cover 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh and the survey will be carried out for unrecognized Madrassas.
Uttarakhand on the other hand will conduct this survey by inspecting both registered and unregistered Madrassas.
Currently, 419 madrassas are registered with the Waqf Board and out of these, 103 belong to the board itself. The Waqf board is of the opinion that there are more than 400 unrecognized and unregistered Madrassas being run in Uttarakhand.
According to the Uttarakhand CM, the survey has been organized to give the state government an idea of the education, activities, and the use of allotted funds in the Madrassas throughout the state of Uttarakhand.
The President of Madrassa Association of Uttarakhand Maulana Ifteqar Ahmed Qasmi in a statement said, "We are not against any kind of survey. However, if there is a complaint against a Madrassa or two, they should be put on the radar rather than putting all the institutes under the inspection radar. It is like questioning the existence of madrassas and their staff".
The Chairman of the Waqf Board of Uttarakhand Shadab Shams, in an answer to a question if any complaints have necessitated the survey, said, "It is not about complaints. If our neighboring state Uttar Pradesh has started such a survey there is nothing wrong with conducting one in our Uttarakhand. The survey will help us know the situation that is prevailing in these institutions so that we can act accordingly for their betterment".
