Kasaragod: Images of the crocodile Babiya, entering the Sri Ananthapadmanabha Swamy Lake Temple in Kerala's Kasaragod have left many shocked on social media. However, the temple authorities said that it is nothing 'unusual'.

Babiya has been residing nearby the temple since the 1940s, said the temple officials. However, no one knows where the crocodile came from and how it ended up in the temple pond. According to the temple officials, Babiya is fully vegetarian and lives mainly on the offerings of the temple. Babiya even responds to the calls during feeding times.

Although Babiya used to visit the temple premises often during the night, but Babiya visited the temple on one early morning. A person was present along with the priest, who clicked the photos of the massive crocodile, Babiya and shared it on social media, which went viral.

However, many aquatic biologists said that Babiya's behaviour and gentle nature is a case of domestication. Babiya might have got used to his diet after being fed with it for decades.
